Keep a decision log.
Save what you knew when you chose, so later learning does not rewrite the beginning.
The outcome is not the whole story.
Looking back at an early project, it is tempting to make the path seem cleaner than it was. A decision log preserves the information available at the time. It makes room for a reasonable attempt that did not work, and for a result that was better than the reasoning behind it.
Keep the entry small.
Write the decision, the reason, the source you relied on and what would make you reconsider. Add a date. You do not need a new system for every small choice; a short note is enough if you can find it later.
Decision: Keep my personal documentary and my business teaching on separate websites.
Reason: The same person has different things to offer a reader who wants the life story and a reader who wants to learn a process.
Revisit if: People cannot understand the relationship or find their way between the sites.
Come back with a real observation.
A later entry can say what happened, what remains unknown and what changed. Keep that beside the original reasoning instead of replacing it. The purpose is better judgment, not a record that makes every past decision look good.
The dated posts behind this website are useful for the same reason. They preserve earlier interests and uncertainties. The connecting essays are reflections written later; they should not pretend to be what I knew then.
