Write a useful AI brief.
Give the work a purpose, a boundary and a result you can actually inspect.
Name the thing you want made.
“Help with my business” leaves nearly every decision open. A more useful brief names the deliverable and the person it serves. For a website, that might be an About page that helps a podcast host understand who you are. For an internal task, it might be a map of what happens after a customer asks a question.
This does not require a long prompt. It requires enough context to distinguish a good result from a plausible-looking one.
Give it evidence and a boundary.
Point to the material that should govern the work. Explain what is current, what is historical and what should remain unchanged. If the source is an old post, say that it establishes what you wrote then, not necessarily what you believe now.
For a task involving accounts or software, specify whether the work is local preparation or a live change. “Draft a page using these approved facts” and “publish this page” are different requests.
A brief you can adapt.
Outcome: Create a first draft of my About page for journalists and podcast hosts.
Sources: Use the biography and the selected dated posts I provide. Keep new interpretation separate from direct quotes.
Boundaries: Preserve my existing design. Do not invent credentials, press appearances or results. Keep the work local.
Check: Verify the name, dates, contact links and every factual claim. Show what still needs my input.
Review the result against the brief.
Read the finished output as the intended visitor. Can they do what you wanted them to do? A polished paragraph that uses the wrong biography has failed the task. A plain first draft that exposes a missing fact may be more useful.
